Abstract

Description

This article is an annotated bibliography on criticisms of knowledge organization systems such as Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress Subject Headings and Dewey Decimal System through a social justice lens. The bibliography covers case studies and critiques from the 1970s to today. Groups affected by prejudices and biases in knowledge organization systems include Native Americans, LGBTQIA+, women, Black people, immigrants and the disabled, and each group has literature covered by the bibliography. The author hopes this bibliography will aid librarians in selecting materials for discussion groups about knowledge organization systems and inherent biases.
